What's New in TinyPilot's July 2025 Update
July 31, 2025
TinyPilot's July release adds quick Tailscale setup, user roles, and the ability to save files to virtual media.
Connect to Tailscale in seconds
One of TinyPilot Pro's most popular uses is controlling a target machine remotely over the Internet.
With TinyPilot's new Tailscale integration, you can join your Tailnet in just a few clicks - no command-line setup required - allowing you to control your target machine over the Internet without port-forwarding or configuring firewalls.
For more on using Tailscale with TinyPilot Pro, see our Tailscale FAQ.
User roles
Sometimes it's helpful to let other people use your TinyPilot device to control a target computer, such as in a corporate environment. However, until now, giving users access to your TinyPilot device meant they could also administer it and change its settings.
This month's TinyPilot Pro release introduces a new Operator role. Users with the Operator role can still control the target machine, but have reduced permissions in TinyPilot's web interface, restricting them from managing TinyPilot's system settings like network configuration, user accounts, or software updates. Administrator users still have complete access.
Save files with Virtual Media
This month's TinyPilot Pro release lets you download virtual media disk images you've uploaded or created from files on your local computer, allowing you to share or save them.
We've also added a new writable flash drive mode, which lets you save files to virtual media from the target computer. TinyPilot will add files you save to virtual media to the corresponding disk image, which you can download from the TinyPilot web interface.
